The Marché du Film de Cannes 2023 opens its doors with the Film Academy as host

The Film Academy was the hostess at Opening Night of the Film Market, a professional meeting of the film industry held under the umbrella of the Cannes Film Festival 2023.

The institution chaired by Fernando Méndez-Leite assumed this responsibility given that Spain is the guest of honor country of this edition of the French competition. He did so in close collaboration with the Spain Film Commission who presides Carlos Rosado.

Numerous representatives of Spanish and international cinema attended the Opening Night, an event in which Fernando Méndez-Leite highlighted the importance of our cinematography in this market in which the cinema of the future is decided, and took stock of the presence of our industry in Cannes 2023, where the latest works of Pedro Almodovar, Victor Erice, Pablo Berger y Elena Martin. They also attended this event Oscar Puente, the mayor of Valladolid, the city that will host the 2024 Goya Awards; Maria Gonzalez Veracruz, Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures; the director of the Marché du Film, Guillaume Esmiol, and the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta.

Méndez-Leite, as president of the Film Academy, highlighted in his speech: "Spanish cinema, with its richness, its variety and its expressive force, is shown in this festival as one of the essential cinematography on the European scene. The Spanish Film Academy is the entity that brings together and, to a certain extent, represents all of us who make Spanish cinema that has earned the respect of the European industry and, for this reason, we are here, proud to promote Spanish cinema with our presence at the Marché de “Cannes”.
