Sarah Renae Clark

Popular for transforming coloring books into a prominent art form, Sarah Renae Clark's channels rely on the cameras of Blackmagic Design, along with the ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO mixer and the Cloud Store Mini 8TB network storage device.

Clark's social media channels have attracted a huge following around the world across his various shows on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest. With tens of millions of views and over 500,000 subscribers across a multitude of platforms, Clark has built a social media content company that consistently produces exceptional quality material, delivered either as pre-recorded or live material.

Being aware of the need to have a more professional work system to increase the reach of their channels, Sarah Renae together with her production partner Shane Clark They chose to use the digital model Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. After the success obtained by incorporating only one of these cameras, they decided to add a mixer ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO and units Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro, in addition to others Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, as central elements of a new company that transmits content over the Internet on various channels.

Shane Clark comments, "Blackmagic cameras, DaVinci Resolve, and ATEM switchers have been integral to our growth, allowing us to go from amateur streaming to a full multi-camera studio. Additionally, we've been able to create members-only bonus material for those who want access to longer videos of me drawing, as well as behind-the-scenes footage."

"At first, we started small, like most YouTubers do. We used ironing boards as a desk and whatever you can think of as a tripod to position our phone and our old DSLR camera. But I'm an artist, so it was important to me to be able to show the details, beautiful colors and different angles of my creations, and at the same time talk while looking into the camera. This led us to get our first Blackmagic camera. Now we have six and we can be as creative as we want,” he adds.

Since May, the team has used two units Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro, four Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, a mixer ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO, a keyboard DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor y DaVinci Resolve Studio, the editing, color grading, visual effects and audio post-production program. He Content is filmed in 6K and is transmitted through various platforms in 4K.

"We work from both an art studio and a broadcast environment. Art work takes place over long periods of time, so we use multiple cameras to capture different angles. Everything is recorded in 6K resolution, which gives us the ability to record the information we need and then reframe certain details without losing quality when necessary," explains Clark.

Signals from all six cameras are transmitted to the ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO switcher. The option of simultaneous display Integrated into the mixer allows Shane to monitor the images behind the scenes, while Sarah does the same while working on her creations. The camera files are generated using the mixer's isolated recording function, and then converted to DaVinci Resolve project files, which Shane uses for editing and grading in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

"We find this feature extremely useful when we want to give content a more candid look or when creating training material, as it allows us to speed up the editing process significantly. When recording this way with the ATEM switcher, being able to access all the files on the network instantly is extremely useful and is a nice change compared to having to transfer files from a USB drive," says Clark.

Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro

In the production company's opinion, the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro "represents a significant advance, and we have gone from shooting with DSLR cameras to working seamlessly with the Pocket version and an ATEM mixer. On the other hand, the larger screens and controls offered by the Studio Camera models are more intuitive and easier to use. We recently used these units in the studio of another experienced creator, and the simplicity of use and the functionalities they offer were a topic of conversation. They expressed admiration and asked many questions."

The combination of the new cameras and the ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO switcher have led to a work dynamics that allow managing productions with several units.

"When live streaming, having some simple tools, such as green and red pilot lights, as well as larger screens and controls in one simple system, has made the entire process more intuitive and easier to use. At the same time, being able to capture shots at various frame rates, record and have the opportunity to view the images captured with the other cameras without difficulties has been a huge step for us. In addition, using labels has also simplified and assisted collaboration with other members of the team, without anyone feeling overwhelmed. Having all these elements allows us to create content and grow without having to worry about the technological aspect,” says Shane Clark.

To manage the considerable amount of recorded material, Clark works with several editors using the device Cloud Store Mini 8TB. These include an editing assistant who takes the recorded material, puts together the projects and is in charge of the first round of editing. Simultaneously, another editor does the creative editing using the same project file, often working on more than one project at a time.

"Previously, material that is slower to process caused us a lot of frustration, because we used a traditional NAS system in the studio for everything related to the company. The Cloud Store Mini devices have performed well with 6K resolution images captured by multiple cameras, and having quick access to our recordings, added to the fact that several people can work on them simultaneously, has considerably increased our work rate," he concludes.
