Telecinco begins filming 'The Prince', a series with unique visual effects from the prestigious Stargate Studios

La californiana Stargate Studios pone al servicio de The Prince su herramienta Virtual Backlot, basada en una tecnología que permite desarrollar escenarios virtuales con realismo absoluto, incluyendo el movimiento de los elementos integrados en las secuencias, reflejos, interacción de los actores y animación 3D, entre otras características.

This week filming began on this production, one of Telecinco's strongest fiction bets for the next season, which will take place on May 13 with Jose Coronado, Álex González and Hiba Abouk as protagonists and with Thaïs Blume, Rubén Cortada and Elia Galera, recently incorporated, as part of the artistic cast. Romance, action, drama and elements typical of the police genre will come together in this fiction produced by the network in collaboration with Plano a Plano Producciones (César Benítez and Aitor Gabilondo).

The Prince será la primera serie europea que cuenta con la creación y supervisión de efectos visuales de Stargate Studios, una empresa internacional radicada en Los Ángeles dedicada a la producción y posproducción digital, especializada en efectos digitales y en la recreación virtual de escenarios y localizaciones de cualquier lugar del mundo.

“Después de verla en series internacionales de reconocido prestigio, vemos por primera vez en Europa la pasmosa tecnología de Stargate Studios, que a veces nos sobrepasa y va más allá de lo imaginable”, ha señalado Manuel Villanueva, director general de Contendidos de Mediaset España.

Por su parte, César Benitez, productor ejecutivo de la serie, ha apuntado que The Prince It is the most ambitious project we have undertaken in television fiction. The biggest challenge we faced was to reproduce the neighborhood of El Príncipe, which is also the protagonist of the series, without having to move there permanently. We had to make a very complicated production design with the idea of ​​100% guaranteeing that the absence of the city of Ceuta would not be noticed and for this we contacted Stargate Studios, the leading company in this type of visual effects. Thanks to them, who are working together with the director of photography, the art director and the directors of the series, we have achieved a production that is going to be very pleasing and surprising.”

A great technological effort

As a complement to the scenes filmed in Ceuta, Virtual Backlot technology will be applied to numerous sequences of the series, integrating the performers into images that the series team has filmed and photographed for weeks in Ceuta locations that are difficult to access for a television shoot.

In this regard, David Serge, partner at Starget Studios and Visual Effects supervisor for The Prince, commented: "After bringing our technology to the most important American series, we are very happy to do our work in Europe with the series. It is important to emphasize that Stargate's work for this series has not consisted of exactly creating visual effects as we did, for example, in The walking dead, but in bringing the city of Ceuta to Madrid. To do this, we have used three different types of technology: driving plates, to simulate in great detail the driving of vehicles in the city of Ceuta; filming exteriors recorded in Ceuta and integrated into the images shot in Madrid with a very complicated production design and, finally, green screens throughout the studio to provide backgrounds, for example, for characters who travel the world and need complete virtual settings.”
