DPA collects the audio of actors and “puppets” in ‘LazyTown’
The series has become an international success since it was first released in 2004 and has been broadcast in more than 170 countries, reaching more than 500 million homes with dubbing in more than 30 languages.
LazyTown Entertainment in Iceland is using miniature microphones DPA to capture audio from the popular pre-school series LazyTown pre-school, which is now filming its fourth season.
The concept LazyTown is entertainment for children and the whole family, dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle in a fun and engaging way. The series has become an international success since it was first released in 2004 and has been broadcast in more than 170 countries, reaching more than 500 million homes with dubbing in more than 30 languages.
The sound supervisor of LazyTownGunnar Arnason, who also owns the recording and post-production company Upptekid, is responsible for the selection of all audio equipment used by LazyTown Entertainment in their studios in Gardabaer, Iceland.
“My task is to create the audio workflow in LazyTown, from the recording studio to the final sound mix. For the past two years, we have relied on DPA microphones for recording dialogue from both live actors and puppet actors. “We chose DPA microphones because they have an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and because they are very well built, so they last a long time and are very durable,” said Arnason.
DPA's Icelandic distributor Exton has supplied LazyTown Entertainment with a dozen miniature 4061 microphones.
"Puppeteers have miniature microphones mounted on sweatbands on their foreheads, while live actors have them hidden in their clothing. This works well, especially for puppeteers who have to work with their hands above their heads, so they need a microphone that stays firmly in place and doesn't get knocked off when they move around. Plus, when the microphone is placed on the forehead you get some skull resonance, which makes the sound even better," adds Arnason.
The series was created by former aerobics champion Magnus Scheving, who also plays the protagonist Sportacus, who motivates children to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle.
