Conax reinforces security in IPTV, unified broadcast and muti-DRM environments
Among its innovations is the recently launched Contego-as-a-Service cloud-based content protection platform, which unifies protection for broadcast and TV Everywhere services across devices, technologies and content types.
An IBC 2016, Conax presents key advances for simplified IPTV security, unified broadcast and multi-DRM content protection for pay television.
At this fair it shows a series of innovations that allow operators to benefit from content distribution strategies. Key among them include the recently launched Contego-as-a-Service cloud-based content protection platform, which unifies protection for streaming and TV Everywhere services across devices, technologies and content types.
Also presented are important advances in simplified IPTV security, multi-DRM deployments and rapid time-to-market solutions for content delivery using TV Everywhere services; all based on the system of back-end Conax Contego unified reference security system.
At the RAI Center we can attend demonstrations such as its Contego-as-a-Service cloud-based platform, Conax Contego. This comprehensive, highly extensible and modular reference content security platform is available as a cloud-based service supporting DVB, IPTV and OTT with all major DRM technologies. Conax provides increasing flexibility while reducing capital investments for pay-TV operators adopting new services for their customers. “Operators can quickly and safely take advantage of growth opportunities in the world of digital content distribution.” Link to new and comprehensive technical documentation
On the other hand, the new Connected Access client is custom designed to eliminate the complexity of securing a modern pay television service. Its unique flexibility allows you to manage both Conditional Access and DRM security in a single client. The Connected Access client uses a highly flexible architecture that can provide different levels of security, leveraging the technology available on each device to meet content security requirements, ranging from free content to strict security requirements for 4K/UHD content.
In terms of multi DRM, Conax provides the ultimate flexibility in content protection across all multi-screen technologies and devices, all based on a single unified security center. With support for common encryption and MPEG DASH, Conax's unique back-end simplifies content protection for TV Everywhere services with market-leading DRM technologies (including Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay Streaming and Nagra PRM) without compromising ease of use for end users.
Also featured at IBC is the award-winning Conax GO Live entry-level end-to-end solution to dramatically reduce complexity and time-to-market for operators launching secure OTT services. Conax GO Live is a solution for streaming live for iOS and Android devices available now with Chromecast and AirPlay support and a control system to analyze customer viewing patterns using an analytics system, all with the possibility of implementation in less than 30 days.
The Philippine Cignal Tv, secure with Conax
The pay television operator Cignal TV will implement Conax Cardless content protection technology to ensure its next phases of growth. Cignal, a subsidiary of telecommunications group PLDT, is the leading satellite DTH (direct-to-home) service provider in the Philippines. Building on the Conax Contego unified security center, Conax Cardless technology will provide full platform protection for new generations of SD, HD and hybrid digital boxes, including Inview middleware.
Jane J. Basas, president of Cignal TV, defends that "security partner, Conax, provides us with the experience and open and flexible solutions necessary to meet Cignal TV's platform growth requirements. We are confident that Conax's experience with large subscriber bases, variety of digital boxes with evaluated security, availability of future advanced solutions and most importantly, its track record in security, make Conax a natural partner for our growth plans."
Morten Solbakken, president and CEO of Conax, for his part highlights that "the highly flexible Conax Cardless technology is scalable to support future developments on the Cignal platform, guaranteeing maximum platform protection and easy implementation of new consumer services. We are proud to offer a future-proof solution that supports Cignal's roadmap for new monetization strategies and new generations of consumers."
Conax provides the Cignal platform with its Cardless solution based on the robust security back-end of the Conax Contego unified platform. Contego is developed to provide support and integration of the main distribution technologies and formats, including UHD/4K, smart cards, Cardless, next generation IPTV security, advanced multi-DRM/OTT services and new hybrid network combinations.
Conax Cardless will protect Cignal TV platform revenue through a unique combination of hardware and software security, providing hardware root of trust for a higher level of protection. Cardless secure software runs within a purpose-built protected hardware environment (Secure Execution Environment) within the chipset and supports coexistence with smart cards. Conax's technology is based on a single back-end, meaning that in any operation only one back-end is necessary, reducing the complexity and cost of Cignal's growth plans.
