As a core founding member of the organization, the Advanced Media Workflow Association recognizes Sony's commitment to advancing open standards and its contribution to the development of industry-wide solutions.

CLOTHING Sony has become a core member of the Advanced Media Workflow Association or CLOTHING) and, therefore, becomes part of the board of directors. Along with other industry leaders, Sony will play a vital role by contributing to the development, adoption, standardization and refinement of open network media (NMOS) specifications.

Brad Gilmer, executive director of the organization, said: "Sony has chosen to become a core member of AMWA. Sony's recent contributions to our Open Network Media Specifications (NMOS) are very valuable and we look forward to working with them over the long term to define the direction of the organization."

The AMWA is an open, community-driven forum focused on developing solutions for networked media workflows. Its members from around the world represent both companies in the audiovisual sector and their suppliers, with special attention to the change that the sector is experiencing in favor of IP-based architectures. To help enable software-based systems to recognize and take full advantage of devices, AMWA has developed the Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS), which include NMOS IS-04/IS-05/IS-06 and are essential elements of an IP Live production system.

Since Sony began developing its IP Live production system, the company believes that using IP for transport is not enough to create a live production system that is more efficient and practical than SDI. To enjoy the full benefits of IP systems you need additional built-in intelligence. By adopting systems that take advantage of the work done in the AMWA NMOS project, broadcasters will be able to take full advantage of an IP network for live production, as well as help drive interoperability in the sector.

Sony has actively contributed to the NMOS specifications: IS-04, IS-05 and IS-06. Additionally, it recently hosted an AMWA NMOS interoperability workshop at Sony Professional Solutions Europe headquarters in Basingstoke, UK. As a core founding member of the AMWA, the company will demonstrate this functionality as part of the “IP Showcase” at this year's IBC show (conference room E106), where it will showcase the SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE ST 2059, SMPTE ST 2022-7, and NMOS IS-04/IS-05 device discovery and management equipment.
