RTVE makes the first 5G TV connection in Spain within the framework of EuCNC 2019 and 7th Global 5G Event
The broadcast, a pioneer in Spain, was carried out from Valencia within the EUCNC 2019 event with the participation of the Territorial Centers of Castilla la Mancha and Valencia.
RTVE participated this Wednesday in EuCNC 2019 y 7th Global 5G Event with carrying out a live television connection test using 5G. From several sources and thanks to the new state-of-the-art networks, Spanish Television carried out a live connection for the territorial news programs at 2 pm in Castilla La Mancha and the Valencian Community.
For the broadcast, a HD camera connected directly to an access point, which is connected to a 5G NR station installed near the Valencia Conference Center, where this important European technological event takes place, which in turn is connected to Orange's 5G StandAlone network core in Vara de Quart.
The content was broadcast over the Internet through protocolo de streaming RTMP, from Vara de Quart to the territorial centers of RTVE Castilla La Mancha in Toledo and Comunidad Valenciana, in Paterna.
It has also been the first in the world with a network Native/pure 5G (in English it is called stand-alone SA). All the tests that have been done so far have been carried out with the first version of the standard, known as non-stand alone NSA, which requires a 4G network for control and signaling information.
The first commercial 5G networks deployed in the world use the NSA version, since today there are no commercial products of the SA version and there are only prototypes.
Although with 5G NSA networks a notable increase in system capacity/throughput can be seen, it will be 5G SA networks that will allow the full potential of 5G to be offered, for example in terms of very low latency and very high reliability of transmissions (including signaling and control information).
The test carried out by RTVE has been carried out in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, FENITEL, Watchity, Cellnex, Orange y ZTE. Furthermore, this experience has also had the collaboration of Europhone.
Both broadcasts could be seen on TV and video walls installed in the Conference Center. The RTVE Comunidad Valenciana broadcast has been collected through TDT points deployed by the Palace. The RTVE Castilla La Mancha broadcast was received through a satellite dish connected to TDT SAT receivers, capable of collecting the encrypted content transported on the satellite. Hispasat 30º W.
EuCNC 2019
EuCNC 2019 is the 28th edition of a successful conference series in the field of telecommunications, sponsored by IEEE Communications Society and the European Association for Signal Processing, and supported by the European Commission. EuCNC has become one of the prominent communications conferences in Europe, presenting pioneering research alongside world-renowned industries.
It attracts over 600 delegates each year, with exhibition space of over 1,500 m². The conference focuses on various aspects of 5G communications networks and systems, including virtualized and cloud solutions, management technologies, and vertical application areas. The main objective is to allow researchers around the world to present the results of the latest research, being one of the main events where they demonstrate the results developed within the framework of different research projects, especially those associated with the successful R&D program co-financed by the European Commission. This year, EuCNC 2019 takes place alongside the 7th Global 5G Event, bringing different 5G associations around the world: 5G-IA, IMT-2020, 5G-Forum, 5G-MF, 5G-Brazil and 5G-Americas.
