Telefónica reaches an agreement with UEFA for the broadcast of the Champions League and the Europa League until the 2023/2024 season
The firm grants Movistar all the broadcasting rights of the main European competitions for all its clients, both residential and for HORECAS in Spain and Andorra.
Telefónica has achieved a great agreement with UEFA for the issuance of the Champions and the Europa League until the 2023/2024 season. This agreement reinforces the commitment of Movistar+ for football as the main axis of the sports content offer.
Emilio Gayo, president of Telefónica Spain, highlights that "this agreement with UEFA is a clear demonstration that Telefónica supports sport in its maximum expression and also that it is an asset that drives the business and brings profitability. It is an important step in Movistar's strategy linked to the world of sport. Our Movistar+ platform continues working to continue making football accessible in our country. Our client will always have in Movistar the best sport and the latest technology to guarantee a differential entertainment experience."
Along with the two major competitions at the European level, Movistar+ subscribers will be able to enjoy, as before, a great event such as the European Super Cup, facing the two winners at the continental level. You can also follow the UEFA Youth League matches, with great promises from international football already regular in the broadcasts on La Casa del Fútbol. The novelty for 2021 will come with the birth of the UEFA Europa Conference League, developed from the Europa League and which will make these competitions between European countries more inclusive.
Guy-Laurent Epstein, Marketing Director of UEFA Events, acknowledges that "UEFA is delighted to renew this distribution agreement for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Youth League in Spain with Telefónica, as well as the new club competition, the UEFA Europa Conference League. This partnership ensures that these competitions will continue to receive comprehensive exposure through innovative coverage for football fans in Spain."
