Interxion - Data Center - Barcelona

The next connectivity hub and colocation of Interxion, a data center that will strengthen the company's presence in the Iberian Peninsula, will be located in Barcelona.

Interxion, company belonging to Digital Realty, has confirmed the acquisition of land for the construction of its new data center. This location, which will be added to the current ones in Marseille, Athens, Zagreb y Madrid, will be located at a key intersection of the global internet highway in the mediterranean region, connecting the Americas to the west, Africa to the south and the Middle East and Asia to the east.

Located in the northeast of Barcelona, in the municipality of Sant Adrià de Besòs, the plot has an allocated capacity of IT power of 15 megawatts (MV). It is planned that the construction of this First data center (BCN1) starts in 2022 and ends in 2024. The land where the future data center will be built is strategically located to provide fast, direct and resilient access to the main submarine cables and interconnection points.

Interxion hopes that thanks to this greater offer of data centers its clients in Spain will be able to serve almost the 90% of the population of the Iberian Peninsula and the south of France with a latency of 4 milliseconds. Additionally, the new data center will allow companies and networks to not only exchange traffic in the region, but also extend your services and expand your communities of interest on multiple continents.

Jan-Pieter Anten, joint managing director EMEA at Interxion, says that this initiative will allow its clients to deploy “critical services around the world” as “the need for data-driven services increases globally.” On the other hand, Robert Assink, general director of Interxion Spain, highlights that the “BCN1 data center and connectivity node will further strengthen Spain's position as the main digital hub in southern Europe.”
