La Tina post-production studio (Colombia) creates a new Dolby Atmos room with Genelec
An intelligent active monitoring system Genelec It works as the core of the new post-production studio Dolby Atmosphere of At Tina's (Colombia).
After making the decision to expand its facilities to face the growing demand for Atmos productions for film and television, the La Tina team decided to trust Lucas Serrano from the acoustic architecture firm Aqstica to design your new spaces. As Andrés Silva, co-founder of the studio, states, La Tina was clear from the first moment that it wanted to have a Genelec monitoring system. To do this, it relied on Alberto de la Cruz, from VCR, local partner of the audio firm: "It was a matter of having enough budget for it, and being sure that the delivery time fit with the construction and production plans. Happily, it worked."
After studying various possibilities, the La Tina team opted for a monitoring system Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 composed exclusively of SAM models (Smart Active Monitoring) two-way: three 8350 for front part L-C-R, twelve 8340s more compact for surround and ceiling channels, plus a subwoofer 7380 to reproduce low frequencies. For Alejandro Uribe-Holguín, another of the studio's co-founders, the experience could not have been more positive: "It has been a real pleasure to work with the new system. One of the things we have noticed is that the sound is clearer. The signals and the sound are distributed throughout all the monitors, so they are not overloaded. It exceeded our expectations." All system calibration was done using the program GLM of its own Genelec.
Currently, the new La Tina studio is already operating at full performance, while providing new creative opportunities: "The Atmos system is great for action scenes and crazy spatial positioning, but it's even better for quiet scenes and natural layouts. We're really enjoying the transparency in quiet scenes. When we place a muffled TV effect, it really looks like there's someone upstairs watching TV and walking on our roof. We're really liking these kinds of details and sensations in quiet scenes, with soft sound sources coming from everywhere," Silva emphasizes.
