RTVE, host of the last meeting of the WorldDAB board of directors

Focused on the DAB+ universe since the beginning of the year, RTVE has hosted the last meeting of the board of directors of WorldDAB, an association of which the Corporation has been a part since 2023.

WorldDAB has more than 100 organizations members that bring together more than 1,300 experts on digital radio in 33 countries around the world. It is made up of public and private broadcasters, regulators, broadcast network operators and manufacturers of receivers, semiconductors, professional equipment and automobiles. Among the member public broadcasters are BBC, Rai, Radio France, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio, Czech Radio, Radio Romania (ROR), RTV Slovenija, SRG SSR or RTVE itself, among others.

At the meeting, RTVE gave an account of its advances in the context of digital radio. So far this year, RTVE has started broadcasting DAB+ from 13 issuing centers, with which it is now possible to listen to digital radio broadcasts from Radio Nacional, Radio Clásica, Radio 3 and Radio 5 in Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Valencia, Seville, Murcia, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela, Pamplona, ​​Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Oviedo, Gijón and Valladolid. Likewise, it is also possible to listen to Ràdio 4 on DAB+ in Barcelona. All this, with the commitment to reach 50% population coverage as soon as possible.

Spain's participation in WorldDAB, in the words of RTVE, seeks to maintain Spain's outstanding position in the radio market European. To achieve this, the broadcaster defends a scenario in which the radio continues to be prominent in cars y without intermediaries (gatekeepers), that may prevent the provision of the service to broadcasters or its reception to citizens.

Spain is also the second largest vehicle manufacturer in Europe, and this has led to WorldDAB Automotive 2025, the global event bringing together car manufacturers and broadcasters to explore the future of DAB+ radio in cars, will be held in Madrid next June.
