Ross Virtual Solutions Enhance Popular Spring Gala on Chinese CCTV

The China Spring Festival Gala, with viewership ratings of 96.98%, is one of the most watched live broadcasts in the world.

Like every year, the Chinese national television network CCTV (China Central Television) broadcasts coverage of the famous China Spring Festival Gala, and this year's program earned a rating of 96.98% audience, making it one of the most popular galas in recent years.

Much of the programe produced at CCTV's headquarters in Beijingn, with additional content that was transmitted from the stages in Shenzhen, Jing Gang Shan and Changchun.

The show featured a variety of exciting on-stage visual effects, including augmented reality and animated graphic elements powered by the latest virtual studio solutions provided by Ross Video. In fact, Ross Video's latest rendering solution had a huge impact on all coverage, with nine systems deployed at the four headquarters to help support this important cultural event in China.

Real-time rendering

The solution of rendering by Ross Video, based on the motor Unreal 4 Gaming Engine de Epic Games, was a key element of 4K UHD broadcasts, producing high-quality special effects and realistic graphics that impressed both viewers and the media. Furthermore, the movement system of Ross Furio Camera helped the gala's production team create dynamic, eye-catching camera movements that would not have been possible with human operators.

The musical performances had graphic elements of augmented reality, enveloping the program in a certain fairy tale air.
