The first movie theater with the mk2 seal is born in the heart of Madrid

He French institute, dependent on the French Embassy, makes available to this initiative a privileged space with a capacity of 250 seats, recently remodeled and equipped with the latest 4K technology, located in the Chueca neighborhood (Marqués de la Ensenada, 10).
From Friday to Sunday, the viewer will find in this room the flagship programming of the mk2 label: quality cinema in the original version with subtitles, sometimes accompanied by meetings with filmmakers, previews and special events. mk2 Institut français will be a meeting point for lovers of the seventh art where, following the brand's philosophy, a critical and unique view of the world will be defended and the diversity of the global cinematographic landscape will be reflected.
Programming
The first weekend's billboard will be made up entirely of exclusive previews that can be enjoyed at mk2 Institut français before its official premiere in cinemas. A set of titles that stand out for their quality and diversity, and for having won important awards at prestigious festivals. They stand out Portrait of a woman on fire, the film by Céline Sciamma recognized with the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes and recently presented in the Pearls section of the San Sebastian Festival; Les Misérables, Ladj Ly's powerful debut feature, winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival; Parasites, by Korean Bong Joon-hoo, which in addition to having the Palme d'Or at Cannes, is nominated as one of the favorites for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film; Save or perish, the heartbreaking story of a heroic firefighter played wonderfully by Pierre Niney; and No Filter, the brilliant French comedy by Eric Lavaine that highlights the great talent of Alexandra Lamy. All of them projected in the original version with subtitles.
Inaugural exhibition
The exhibition based on obras of Hélène Delmaire made for the movie Portrait of a woman on fire, will receive the first attendees at mk2 Institut français de Madrid between October 4 and 27. Original paintings and sketches accompanied by explanatory videos to contextualize the importance of art in the incandescent love story between the painter (Noémie Merlant) and her model (Adèle Haenel). Works that reflect the power of the artist's gaze, capable of capturing an invisible truth with brush strokes.
An emblem of global auteur cinema, mk2 is a family company founded by Marin Karmitz in 1974 and directed by his sons Nathanaël and Elisha Karmitz. mk2 champions quality cinema and creates living environments that encourage creative discovery.
mk2 manages 26 theaters (200 screens) in France and Spain (through the Cine/Sur film circuit and mk2 Palacio de Hielo) and receives more than 9 million spectators a year. It also distributes a large catalog worldwide with more than 800 titles, many of them by great authors in the history of cinema (Charles Chaplin, François Truffaut, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Abbas Kiarostami, David Lynch, Gus Van Sant, Xavier Dolan, among others). Each year it produces, co-produces, sells and distributes between 15 and 20 films a year with renowned and promising filmmakers such as Naomi Kawase, Pawel Pawlikoswki and Jia Zhang-Ke. Among its more than 100 productions, it has received more than 160 awards at top-level film festivals.
In 2016 it expanded its activity to the field of virtual reality, with the opening of the largest virtual reality complex in Europe, the mk2 VR, and began promoting the global distribution of virtual reality content.
