The documentary feature film about the paintings of the Sigena Monastery (Huesca) will allow you to know the original appearance of your Chapter House, known as the Sistine Chapel of European Romanesque. It is directed by Jesus Garces Lambert (2018 Golden Globe Award for Caravaggio, the soul and the blood).
Sigena, the magic of a dream narrates the reconstruction project that has promoted Juan Naya, a resident of Villanueva de Sigena and NASA astrophysicist, of the Romanesque paintings of the Monastery. The vast majority were lost or irreversibly damaged during a fire in the Civil War.
Juan's childhood memories of playing in the ruins of the Monastery, along with conversations in which his grandparents told him what the ceilings and walls looked like before the fire, forged his desire to reconstruct the paintings.
This journey begins with the only help of some black and white photos, taken a few months before the start of the Civil War. But how to find more information about the colors, ceilings and other details of the Hall that Sancha de Castilla founded?
To solve this great puzzle, count on the help of Daniel Gonzalez, illustrator; Paco Martos, passionate craftsman in Mudejar art, or Albert Burzón, digital artist expert in Romanesque art, together with national and international experts from institutions such as the British Library, Winchester Cathedral, the Palatine Chapel or the MET Cloisters. A reconstruction that evolves as unknowns are resolved while others appear.
Sigena, the magic of a dream It is a production of Benecé y Dreamdigital Creative Works, with participation of RTVE and the support of ICAA.
