The 6G era makes its way with Enable-6G, a project promoted by the Spanish industry
The research centers IMD, in collaboration with brands such as Telefónica, NEC Corporation y BluSpecs, present Enable-6G, a project that aims to address the challenges that future 6G networks will face.
The global technology industry is already exploring the 6G possibilities, which promise to address unfinished challenges of 5G such as energy efficiency, security or data privacy. Faced with these challenges, the project Enable-6G will boost different initiatives with the aim of making the 6G world “more adaptable and intelligent.”
To achieve this, one of the main challenges that Enable-6G will address will be to be able to guarantee that the architecture incorporates advanced protections of the privacy, as data privacy and security have become major concerns, and also a major advantage for new user cases. Another strategic objective is design and implementation of software-defined networks that can implement optimized edge-to-cloud processing to facilitate time-critical, geo-distributed network orchestration (e.g., by applying control-task algorithms). Likewise, Enable-6G represents a step forward in new technologies towards 6G to improve wireless communications, provide environmental detection y significantly reduce the energy footprint per device, thus avoiding a large overall increase in network energy consumption.
Telefónica, as a private R&D center, will take advantage of its participation to explore and develop new technologies and solutions that can improve the company's current products and services. Also joins the project NEC Corporation, in its commitment to research and development; the scientists of IMDEA Networks, one of the best innovation and development centers in Spain, and BluSpecs, specialized in the digital transformation of private and public organizations.
