AVOD, axis to perpetuate the growth of video on demand in LATAM
Additional profits for movies and series episodes from ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) models will match their counterparts in subscription video on demand (SVOD) services in the Latin American market over the next few years.
The finding is extracted from the latest study by Digital TV Research, which provides data that shows how the episode income OTT TV and movies to 19 Latin American countries will increase in 7 billion dollars between 2022 y 2028 until reaching the 16 billion dollars.
AVOD and SVOD will add 3 billion dollars each one during this period, with the SVOD assuming the largest source of ingresos OTT of the region, with a contribution of $9.7 billion in 2028, double the total AVOD. As pointed out Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research: "We expect Netflix, Disney+, HBO and Paramount to launch hybrid AVOD-SVOD platforms in the near term. AVOD will significantly drive revenue for these platforms as they grow. SVOD growth falters”.
With respect to specific markets, Brazil y Mexico combined will provide the 64% of the region's income in 2028: Brazil will contribute 2.9 billion dollars, while the Mexican market will represent 1.6 billion.
